Sandro Giovannini (1915-1977) e Pietro Garinei, autori e registi, hanno inventato la commedia musicale italiana. Fu loro anche l'idea di Canzonissima, il programma da cui deriva la maggior parte dei varietà tv degli ultimi 50 anni. Grandi successi della coppia sono stati Rinaldo in campo, Rugantino e Alleluia, brava gente. L'opera più nota è Aggiungi un posto a tavola, il musical di argomento religioso (l'amico in più è lo Spirito Santo) interpretato da Johnny Dorelli nella parte dell'intraprendente Don Silvestro. Gallucci ha pubblicato la versione di Aggiungi un posto a tavola illustrata da Nicoletta Costa.
